West Herts College, in partnership with Herts & Middlesex Wildlife Trust, have designed 'innovative urban wildlife habitats, in a project aiming to raise awareness for environmental consciousness.
In an effort to spread awareness for sustainability and environmental preservation, Level 3 Product & Craft Students at West Herts College have taken on a mission, set by Herts and Middlesex Wildlife Trust, to remodel a space where wildlife can thrive.
The Trust decided to work with the students in a message to encourage young people to follow guidelines for greener and sustainable living, and educate about unknown creatures.
The project is mostly aimed at endangered species, with students creating habitats for hedgehogs, birds, squirrels, frogs and bees. This process took several weeks of students researching their chosen animal and sharing ideas in their groups, before presenting their findings and theit final piece to the class and the trust committee.

Winning Student, Zack, had this to say in his feat: 'I found the project interestingly challenging and it necessary to include one more feature, I was excited to work with the Trust to help raise awareness of the natural world.' He managed to take the top spot after impressing the Trust with his replica of a decomposable frog habitat.
Amy from Herts Wildlife Trust also commented on her experience with the students: ' I was truly impressed by the incredible amount of time, effort and creativity the students invested into this project. Their research was outstanding, and the final pieces showcased an amazing diversity of ideas and exceptional quality- making it near impossible to choose a single winner! Being a part of this project was an absolute privillege.'
With West Herts being a leading academic institution in the area with students enrolling from around the Home Counties and North London, this collaboration with the charity can only bring positive messages to the next generation.
