Sales of Watford FC’s away kit for the 2025/2026 football season raise funds for the “Your Tree, Our Future”programme, planting trees across Hertfordshire.
Watford Football Club has recently unveiled its new kit for the 2025/2026 football season and that some of the proceeds of its shirts will go to the “Your Tree, Our Future” programme in order to help plant trees in the local area. The shirt features a dark green and black checkered pattern and will be made out of recycled polyester, in order to further sustainability efforts, and 50p from the sale of each shirt will be donated to the scheme.
The club’s Head of Retail, Kevin Newman, tells Vibe in a statement that “this season’s away kit is not only green in colour, but our first shirt made from sustainable fabrics. As a club we are focused on reducing our carbon footprint and we are on track to be net zero by 2040. With the launch of this shirt, it felt like a great opportunity to partner with Watford Borough Council and Hertfordshire County Council and make our own contribution to the fantastic, ‘Your Tree, Our Future’ initiative. So, the club have pledged to donate one tree for every three away shirts sold this season. We expect this to equate to over 1,500 new trees being planted locally over the next two years.”.
The “Your Tree, Our Future” scheme, is a collective effort launched by Hertfordshire County Council, Hertfordshire’s district and borough councils, as well as voluntary sector groups, in order to encourage the Hertfordshire community to plant more trees across the county; participants can choose from eight different types to plant in their homes or businesses for free including wild cherry trees and silver birch trees.
The scheme has been successful, planting over 190,000 trees in its first three years, and the goal has been increased to 250,000 trees for 2025.
In a statement on behalf of Watford Borough Council, Councillor Ian Stotesbury said, “Watford FC, ranked among the most sustainable clubs in the championship, continues to lead by example- aiming for net zero by 2040 and a 50% carbon cut by 30%”.
The new shirt will be available to buy from the Hornet Shop.
