Watford Palace Theatre celebrated their 10th edition of their annual Chinese New Year Show on 16 February 2026
Organised by Watford Chinese Association, local members gathered for a celebration of the Lunar New Year, bringing together families, friends, and visitors from across Watford. For the Year of the Horse, known as a symbol of strength and good fortune, the family-friendly celebration consisted of traditional music, classical performance, and martial arts. Specifically, a colourful lion and dragon dance offered an engaging introduction to Chinese culture for children, while adults enjoyed the lively atmosphere and rich traditions on display.
Curator of the show, Lijun Bi, said: “Sharing these traditions with families and the wider community is truly special!” She added that the enthusiasm and support from volunteers and performers played a key role in making the event a success year after year.
Watford's cultural calendar has benefited much from the efforts of its organisers, performers, and volunteers, as evidenced by the celebration of its tenth anniversary. The show establishes a vibrant and upbeat tone for the upcoming year as the Year of the Horse gets underway.
Cllr Aga Dychton, The Deputy Mayor of Watford, said: “The Chinese New Year Show is a wonderful example of the diversity and community spirit we are so proud to celebrate in Watford.”
