New Lemur Exhibition set to open at Hertfordshire Zoo in Summer 2026

Hertfordshire Zoo have announced they plan to open a new 'Lemurs of Madagascar' exhibition, a immersive walkthrough experience opening in June 2026.

The new exhibition entitled 'Lemurs of Madagascar' is set to open up in June 2026 at Hertfordshire Zoo in Broxbourne and hopes to bring visitors closer than ever to some of the world's most exclusive and hidden primates, and also some of the most threatened.

Visitors will have the opportunity to see many types of primate, including the ring-tailed lemur, and a variety of free-flying Madagascan bird. The attraction is designed to replicate the natural habitat of their native island, full of lush and fresh greenery. This design replaces the prior lemur facilities, and is expected to be double the size at 10 metres tall. This allows ample movement for the lemurs to enjoy the space freely.

Hertfordshire Zoo wants to make conservation a vital part of their educational narrative for 2026, and Lemurs of Madagascar is an honourary to the zoo's dedication to preserving wildlife in Madagascar and other endangered wildlife on Mainland Africa. The Zoo has been supoorting charity SEED which is dedicated to habitat restoration. Last year, they donated £10,000 to the charity.

Managing Director of Hertfordshire Zoo, Tyler Whitnall says: 'We are incredibly excited to bring the exhibition to our visitors in 2026. This habitat represents years of planning and a massive investment in animal welfare. By quadrupling the space available to our lemurs, we are giving them an environment where they can truly thrive.'
