A Watford car trader and Church Pastor who illegally claimed over £20,000 of benefits has pleaded guilty to fraud.
On 4th September 2014 Anthony Oggunaike, of Kytes Drive, was sentenced to 14 weeks custody, suspended for 12 months; 100 hours of unpaid work; ordered to pay £250 in costs and an £80 victim surcharge.
Between April 2008 and December 2012, Oggunaike claimed £23,769 of Housing and Council Tax Benefit, failing to notify Watford Borough Council of his earnings as a Church Pastor and car trader. It was found that between 2007 and 2009, Oggunaike spent £67,870 purchasing 84 vehicles online. He also admitted to starting a soft drinks business.
At Court, Oggnuaike was given credit for his early plea and co-operation with the investigation. An arrangement has already been made for him to fully repay the council.
