Watford Football Club has announced the signing of French youth international and Le Havre midfielder Pape Gueye
Watford Football Club has announced the signing of French youth international and Le Havre midfielder Pape Gueye.
The 21-year-old Frenchman is believed to have signed a five-year pre-contract agreement with the Hornets and will join this summer on a free transfer.
Although there are rumours that the deal has not fully been completed, Watford confirmed on their social media accounts that Gueye would join the Hertfordshire outfit on 30th June.
Speaking to The Athletic, Gueye’s agent Pierre-Henri Bovis said:
“Nothing is fixed. We have a ‘so-called’ contract from January. Now we are trying to resolve possible issues. The circumstances are very strange. The communication of Watford doesn’t change anything for us.
“In the UK, in France, Germany and Italy, we really don’t know about the solution or the club where Pape Gueye could go.”
The confusion is based around agent fees, Gueye originally putting pen to paper with former agent Bakari Sanogo.
The player featured 26 times in the French Ligue 2 before the season was interrupted by COVID-19.
