Watford FC may have won their first match of the season, but Harry the Hornet’s challenge will come during Watford Borough Council’s Big Sports Day on Saturday.
Lovable mascot Harry may be used to dancing around on pitch and entertaining crowds during the football but on Saturday 19th September he will take part in a mascot race. The event will take place on the ‘one day only’ athletics track at The Parade near the junction with Clarendon Road and the High Street at 12noon.
The free Big Sports Day event will see Harry take on the likes of Peppa and George Pig, the Everyone Active Bee, and Stop Smoking mascot the Big Cig. If successful in his first race, he will join the fastest of the mascots in the finals at 2.00pm.
There will also be competitive time trial races at 11.00am, adults and children’s races at noon and an egg and spoon, sack and three-legged races on the track at 3.00pm.
Watford gym Fitness4Less will be running a Tabata high speed interval training class at 11.00am, a kick-boxing class at 12noon, a kettlebells class at 1.00pm and body fat consultations throughout Big Sports Day.
Nearby gym NRG will run a zumba class at 11.00am, spin class at 11.30am, boxercise class at 12noon, more zumba at 1.30pm, circuits class at 2.30pm, more spin at 300pm, and boot camp at 3.30pm.
There will be parkour workshops, a climbing wall, mini tennis court, cycle simulator, golf training, BMXing, Herts Fire & Rescue physical training tests and more throughout Big Sports Day. Watford FC will run a target wall competition – where they will be joined by Harry the Hornet when he isn’t racing other mascots. There will also be a tackle, speed and bungee run event in a giant rugby area. That’s not to mention health MOTs from Watford’s GPs, and massage, reiki and yoga in the Feel Hot Yoga and Wellbeing Tent.
Elected Mayor of Watford Dorothy Thornhill said: “It’s not very often that you get to try out all of these sports and fitness activities for free. Head on down to our Watford Big Sports Day on Saturday and you’re guaranteed to have a good time.”
The Big Sports Day will be happening all along the pedestrianised part of The Parade from 11.00am to 5.00pm on Saturday 19th September. For more information, visit www.watfordbigevents.co.uk.
