Look out for your handbags, there are purse snatchers about!

Police have asked people "to be vigilant and aware of their surroundings while out shopping" after two recent 'purse dipping' incidents.

They released CCTV pictures of a man and woman "who could have information" as they continue to look for those behind the 'purse dippings' offences.

A few weeks ago, a woman in her 70s was on her mobility scooter in the afternoon (around 2pm) on the High Street when her handbag was taken from the front basket of the scooter.

The bag had cash, and credit cards which the culprits tried and failed to use later.

Before that, between 5.30pm and 6.30pm on Sunday March 20, a woman in her 20s had placed a bag of shopping down on the floor while standing outside the Walkabout Bar on the High Street.

Without the victim seeing, someone took the bag and ran off with it.

PC Chris Jones, from the Watford Safer Neighbourhood Team, said: "I would like to trace these people as they may have information about either of these incidents that is vital to our investigation.

"If you recognise these people then please get in touch with me as soon as possible.

"Criminals committing these kinds of offences often take advantage of victims when they are distracted or not paying full attention to what is going on around them.

"I would urge people to be vigilant and aware of their surroundings while out shopping."

Anyone with information should contact PC Jones on the Hertfordshire Constabulary non-emergency number 101.
