Woman arrested after car crashes into nursery playground injuring toddler

A two-year-old boy was injured when a car crashed into a Cheshire nursery school playground, police said.

A 63-year-old woman was arrested on suspicion of causing serious injury by dangerous driving after a car drove through a fence and into the playground of the school in Ellesmere Port on Monday morning, according to Cheshire Constabulary.

The toddler was taken to hospital by paramedics with what were "thought to be serious injuries", though police later said the injuries were "not as serious as first thought".

Two other children suffered minor injuries in the crash, which occurred at around 9.54am on Vale Road, in the Whitby area of the town.

The two-year-old remains in hospital under supervision and his family have been told, the force said.

Neighbour Sylvia Dominguez said she was at home when she saw police arrive and realised something had happened.

She described her shock at seeing a car "inside the playground".

"I normally see kids playing there every day, but the car was right inside," she added.

A Cheshire Constabulary spokesperson said: "Officers are currently on scene and are conducting a number of inquiries to fully establish the circumstances of what is believed to be an isolated incident."
