Trump gives more details about King's state visit

More details of the King's state visit marking the 250th anniversary of US independence from Britain have emerged.

The US president told Reuters on Friday that Iran, NATO and the UK's digital services tax are among the topics he plans to discuss with King Charles during his four-day trip to the US next week.

"I'm going to talk about everything," Donald Trump said during a phone interview. "I'm going to talk about it. He's a ‌friend of mine, and he's a great guy."

During the visit, the King will make stops in Virginia, New York and Washington DC, where he will meet privately with Mr Trump and deliver a joint address before the US Congress.

The King will also take part in a 9/11 memorial wreath-laying ceremony with Zohran Mamdani, ‌the New York mayor's office said on Friday.

The memorial marks the site of the September 11, 2001 Twin Towers attacks.

Some 67 Britons were among at least 2,606 people who died after militant Islamists from al Qaeda crashed hijacked planes into the World Trade Center buildings.

Joe Calvello, the mayor's press secretary, said the King and Mr Mamdani will not meet privately.

Mr Trump will meet privately with Charles, and host a state banquet for the King and Queen Camilla.

The visit comes against the backdrop of strained relations between the US president and Sir Keir Starmer over the Iran conflict.

Mr Trump has threatened to impose tariffs on Britain if Sir Keir does not drop the digital services tax.

The tax, which was introduced in 2020, imposes a 2% levy on the revenues of several major tech firms.

It targets companies whose worldwide revenues from digital activities exceed £500m, with more than £25m of the revenues from UK users.

Mr Trump told the BBC on Thursday that he believes Charles could help repair the relationship with the UK.

"I know him well, I've known him for years. He's a brave man, and he's a great man. They would absolutely be a positive," Mr Trump said.
