Former non-league football club boss admits offences linked to rape of woman drugged by husband

The former chief executive of a non-league football club has admitted offences linked to the rape of a woman who was drugged by her husband.

Karl Lindsay, 56, from Taunton, Somerset, was due to go on trial next week along with nine other men who are all charged with allegations involving sexual offending against the same woman, who cannot be named.

At Manchester's Minshull Street Crown Court on Friday, Lindsay admitted offences between January 2015 and October 2025 that involved the rape of the woman by her husband and others, and the administration to her of substances in order to stupefy her for the purposes of engaging in sexual acts with her.

His victim sat in the public gallery and watched as Lindsay entered guilty pleas.

Lindsay, who stepped down as chief executive of Taunton Town last year, was remanded in custody on Friday and was told he would be sentenced at the conclusion of the trial.

Earlier this month, two other men admitted allegations related to the sexual offending.

Graham Brougham, 74, of Northwich, Cheshire, admitted an offence of rape in 2024.

Sean Peers, 38, of Stockport, Greater Manchester, admitted a single count of assault by penetration.

Both were released on bail ahead of their sentencing.

The woman's husband pleaded guilty last month to multiple sexual offences against his wife, including rape and administering a substance with intent. He cannot be named to protect the anonymity of his wife.

The trial of the nine other men, aged between 28 and 70, is due to begin on 2 November.

They are:

  • David Graves, 60, from Ilkeston, Derbyshire
  • Daniel Rayner, 42, from Whitstable, Kent
  • Philip Wild, 59, from Stockport
  • Mohammed Sabir, 28, from Stockport
  • Jonathan Kirk, 43, from Stockport
  • Jordan Wallace, 31, of Wythenshawe
  • Alan Keelan, 42, from Wythenshawe
  • Robert Stewart, 70, from Stockport
  • Richard Townsend, 38, from Heywood, Greater Manchester
