Watford brings another round of Big Events to the town!

What better way to kick off the second series of Big Events than with a great big music celebration! A range of acts will be drawing in the crowds and bringing The Parade in Watford to life.

Watford Borough Council has given local businesses, headteachers and members of the arts community a sneak preview of its action-packed 2015 series of Big Events.

At a busy event, held at Watford Colosseum, almost 100 people attended to celebrate the success of last year’s Big Events as well as to see what’s in store for this year. The event focused on ways in which businesses, schools and cultural groups can get involved with the varied events programme.

Introduced to celebrate the renovation of The Parade and the pond - as well as the town’s commitment to culture and the arts - last year’s Big Events was a resounding hit, as thousands turned out to enjoy them. This year promises to draw even more crowds, with old favourites like the Big Screen and the Big Skate returning, along with some new and exciting events.

Big Summer Sounds kicks things off on Sunday 17th May, with folk, jazz and world music taking centre stage. A range of acts will be performing live on The Parade throughout the day and evening – all for free.

Elected Mayor Dorothy Thornhill said: “There was a really positive buzz about what we have planned. We want this year’s Big Events to be even better and working with local businesses, schools and Watford’s thriving arts community will help us to achieve this.”

Attendees were also given the chance to find out more about the new and improved event spaces available for use and hire in the town. The council is keen to encourage local groups to make the most of the assorted spaces to continue to enhance Watford’s cultural scene.

The Big Events is produced by Watford Borough Council in association with Watford Palace Theatre and upcoming events will include The Big Screen, Big Family Sports Day, Diwali on the Parade and The Big Skate.
