Easter Youth Arts Week to take place in Rickmansworth

If you are aged between 14 and 19 and looking for fun ways to fill your Easter break then join The Art Box in Rickmansworth for their Youth Arts Week!

The Art Box is providing a range of free activities for local young people to work with industry professionals and gain skills in a variety of activities.  In addition, there will be a chance for participants to showcase their work on the final day.  

Monday 13th April - Smartphone and Digital Photography, 11.00am - 4.00pm at Watersmeet, Rickmansworth, WD3 1EH

The day will be spent working with a professional photographer learning how to take the best pictures on your Smartphone or digital camera. It will involve being taken out on a local photography walk, taking photos of interesting subjects, whilst learning techniques and tips from the photographer such as basic composition, resolution and how to use lighting.  Photographs will then be presented later in the week at the informal sharing afternoon and will also feature in an upcoming youth art exhibition at Artistsmeet.

Tuesday 14th April - Song Writing and Music Production, 11.00am - 4.00pm at Watersmeet, Rickmansworth, WD3 1EH

An experienced songwriter and music producer will be working with the teenagers to explore themes such as lyric and poetry/song writing, keyboard techniques (theory and performance), musical style and genre, composition and music production, to create a piece/or pieces of music as a group. Each participant will then record the piece using music software and technology and it will be played later in the week at the informal sharing afternoon.

Wednesday 15th April - Contemporary Dance, 11.00am - 4.00pm at Watersmeet, Rickmansworth, WD3 1EH

This session will be lead by Emilia Robinson from MotionLabs, a professional dance company who deliver high quality workshops for individuals to get involved with contemporary dance practice in a creative, inspiring and fun way. During the workshop, there will be a warm up, movement exercises focusing on dance technique, the chance to learn a short choreography, make creative work in groups and develop performance skills. The short piece of work created will be presented later in the week at the informal sharing afternoon.

Thursday 16th April - Masked Theatre and Performance, 11.00am - 1.30pm, Baptist Church, Rickmansworth, WD3 1EH

Trestle Theatre Company will be leading this session; they offer inspiring and exciting drama workshops in mask theatre delivered by professional theatre practitioners. Trestle’s playful half mask workshop provides an opportunity to learn mask performance skills, create wonderful characters and explore the magic of Trestle Masks! There will be a chance to showcase your new mask work skills afterwards at the informal sharing afternoon.

All young people who have taken part in activities throughout the week will be invited back to share the skills they have learnt and the work they have created, at a celebratory sharing afternoon on Thursday 16 April, 2:30-3:30pm, at Rickmansworth Baptist Church, WD3 1EH.
