The magic of Christmas has arrived at intu Watford!

Natalie, Martin and Arthur Carpenter with Santa and one of his Elves!

The countdown to Christmas officially began last Thursday when intu Watford was transformed into a glittering winter wonderland, illuminated by thousands of sparkling lights.

Huge, excited crowds gathered to witness the festive magic at the new-look, bigger and better shopping centre. The Christmas spirit was electric, as celebrities, including BBC Radio 1 presenter and DJ Chris Stark, Watford FC players, Palace Theatre’s panto cast and Santa himself took to the stage for the wonderful Christmas spectacular countdown.

It was Watford’s very own Christmas hero Arthur Carpenter (aged 2), who stole the show as he, with his parents, Martin and Natalie, pressed the plunger and made the town twinkle. He was nominated and won the intu Watford local hero competition following a devastating year, which recently saw his big brother, Freddie lose his fight to cancer. Arthur was also diagnosed with brain cancer and is now in remission.

intu Watford gave Arthur a sack full of presents, a £100 intu gift card, tickets to see Santa in his grotto and free parking for mum and dad on the day, to help bring a smile to him this Christmas.

Vicki Costello, General Manager at intu Watford said: “A huge thank you to Arthur for taking care of the biggest job of the day and turning the lights on at intu Watford. We hope everyone enjoyed kicking off the seasonal festivities with us. Don’t forget there’s plenty more to come over the next few weeks, intu Watford’s Christmas cheer doesn’t end here! We’re planning to make 2018 the town’s biggest Christmas to date, full of the merriest, most joyful moments.”

There’s a kaleidoscope of festive fun at intu Watford from now until Christmas Eve. Remember, Santa will be in his grotto from Friday 23rd November all the way up to Christmas, waiting to hear what the little girls and boys of Watford are hoping to find in their stockings. Getting into the centre is easier now with more car parking than ever before. Plus, from Monday 3rd December, it’s FREE after 6pm on weekdays! See intu Watford’s Christmas opening hours online for more details.
