Remembrance Sunday marks the 100 year anniversary since the end of the First World War. To commemorate this event, a number of Remembrance services will be taking place this weekend.
On Saturday 10th November there will be a Remembrance service at Vicarage Road Cemetery at 11am. In addition, a number of events will be taking place on Sunday 11th November at:
· All Saints Church, Horseshoe Lane at 9am
· St Matthew's Church, Eastbury Road at 10.15am
· Leavesden Memorial, High Road at 11am
· Oxhey Village Green at 2.15pm
· Civic Service at the Town Hall at 3pm

Led by Elected Mayor Peter Taylor, the Museum will be joining organisations and communities around the country in a historic beacon lighting ceremony to commemorate the 100 anniversary since the end of the First World War. So, pllease join the Elected Mayor and others in the Museum garden on Sunday 11th November just before 7pm.
Elected Mayor of Watford Peter Taylor said: “This November marks the centenary of the end of the First World War. The impact that the First World War had on our town was enormous. Huge numbers of Watford men joined the call to arms. The town also pulled together around the war effort. Given Watford’s proximity to training camps and transport links, Watford families regularly hosted service men in the town, and Watford residents formed working parties, making pyjamas and padded splints for the wounded.
“That’s why I’m really proud that we’re able to remember our town’s role in the Great War and the people from Watford who made the ultimate sacrifice. I hope residents are able to come along to the beacon lighting and all other events being put on as part of our Watford Will Remember project.”
Watford Museum is also hosting an exhibition in the Museum’s foyer and Space2 Gallery until Saturday 22nd December. The exhibition describes the impact on Watford during the Great War as it was told at the time through words and pictures from the local newspapers.
Watford Museum is open from Thursday to Saturday, 10am to 5pm and admission is free. The Museum will be open later than usual on Remembrance Sunday, from 5pm until 9pm, to allow visitors attending the beacon lighting the opportunity to see The Great War exhibition.
