Vibe 107.6 FM's great live music event brought together performances from local bands Funkify, Scandal and The Spitfires. They rocked Watford's High Street, whilst Lauren Pope's fantastic DJ set continued the party atmosphere into the night!
Watford’s newly revamped Parade came alive on Saturday 13th September as crowds gathered for an explosive afternoon of live music performances.
The event, hosted by Vibe 107.6 FM, delivered an eclectic range of music with sets from soulful band Funkify, Scandal and The Spitfires. Special guest, Lauren Pope closed the evening with bass-heavy dance tracks that fuelled the start of a big night out for many.
Families arrived early to bag a space by the pond, many setting up with picnics and drinks in the sun. Whilst performers relaxed in a V.I.P. area in Oceana, I got a chance to speak to the bands at the open bar. Billy Sullivan, lead singer of The Spitfires, described their punk-inspired music as “fast, aggressive, guitar” and said the band will be touring the UK from October.
Sound checks shook the high street and drew in people of all ages as Vibe 107.6 FM presenters Rezzy and Luke kick-started the event mid-afternoon. Funkify brought the audience to their feet with jazzy, feel-good tunes, followed by Scandal playing covers of music hits. The band’s “4th or 5th reincarnation keeps things fresh,” said Scandal’s original lead guitarist Jay. Singer Lucy Hall told me of the band’s “great following” which was clear from the crowd’s enthusiastic support.
The Spitfires’ 60’s Mod look, inspired by Paul Weller, made them stand out. Their evening performance attracted a younger crowd and together with the flashing lights and rumbling amps, set the scene for an energetic gig. The bars around the pond filled up and the buzz kept building in the run up to Lauren Pope’s DJ set at 8pm. The crowd’s excitement grew and the party atmosphere really kicked off when she arrived, blasting current club tracks.
As Party by the Pond drew to a close, Vibe presenter Emma Jones told me, “I loved meeting listeners of the station. Today has been a massive success!”
