Get your skates on this Christmas!

Relish in the magic of Christmas with Watford Borough Council’s Big Skate as it returns to The Parade from 24th November until 13th January 2019.

There's no better way to get into the festive spirit, as the ice rink returns for the fifth year running, taking centre stage for any budding Torvill and Deans and happy amateurs alike.  Plus, penguin skate aids are available to hire for those looking for some extra help.

To mark the opening day of the Big Skate on Saturday 24th November, the Birmingham Ice Freestylers will be wowing crowds with their ice acrobatics and dancing throughout the day, with breakdancing, stunts and fire-breathing all part of the planned performance!

However, the rink isn’t just for skaters. If you’re coming along to watch, you’ll be well looked after with a great range of local food and drink on offer. You can warm yourself up with hot drinks at the ski lodge bar at the rink or from one of the stalls or restaurants in the town centre.

In addition, Everyone Active are sponsors of this year's event. They will be at the rink giving out guest passes for Central Leisure Centre for everyone that skates!

Elected Mayor of Watford Peter Taylor said: “Watford’s outdoor ice rink has become a real Christmas feature for the town. It means that people from Watford and nearby can experience this lovely winter time treat right on their doorstep. I’m really proud that we can put on these events.”

There’s plenty of parking nearby at the town centre car parks but people are encouraged to use public transport during busy periods. Interlink also has a bus stop on Rickmansworth Road, which is also just a few seconds walk away.

You can turn up on the day and skate if the rink hasn’t yet reached full capacity, or book tickets in advance online at watfordbigevents.co.uk, where you can also find costs and the full festive opening hours. Normal hours are 11am – 9pm at the weekends, and 12noon to 9pm during the week.
