The Watford UTC - A New College for September

A new college will be opening in Colonial way in September, specialising in Computer Science, and Hospitality, Tourism and Event Management. The Watford UTC will offer full-time technically-oriented courses to 600 students aged 14-19.

Based in Colonial Way (WD24 4PT) the Watford UTC will offer full-time technically-oriented courses to 600 students aged 14-19. A broad range of courses will have a special focus on the technical skills, trades and technologies that support the computer and digital communication industries, hospitality and tourism. These are vibrant industries that face an acute skills shortage and the UTC will offer a fantastic opportunity to students who are searching for quality vocational education. The UTC’s two specialisms will be Computer Science, and Hospitality, Tourism and Event Management.

Watford UTC is supported by the University of Hertfordshire and other employers including Hilton Worldwide, CAE Technologies, Twin Technology, Toshiba, TNT Post, Cisco and The Grove who will shape the curriculum to give students skills for the future. These sponsors will be highly involved, providing relevant work placements and mentors to support and inspire students. Students will be both highly qualified and sought after in the world of work. Learning will be project-based – students will work on real life industry projects making learning more enjoyable and more relevant. This mix of academic and specialist knowledge will give students a substantial advantage in their next steps. The College are recruiting students who are currently in Year 9 and will be aged 14 by September 2014, and also those who are now in Year 11 and will be aged 16 by September 2014.
